A FIFO worker has been jailed for life for brutally murdering his own mother.

Steven Paul Staggard, 46, stabbed his mum Roselyn, 67, to death in her bedroom at her home in Perth before shutting the door, leaving his father to walk in on the bloody “horror movie” scene.

Staggard then tried to blame the murder on his dad and also claimed his mother may have harmed herself.

Roselyn’s body was found with 24 stab wounds, including injuries to her eye and neck, the ABC reported, as well as defensive wounds suggesting she tried to fight off her killer son.

Staggard eventually admitted killing his mother but still denied intending to do so.

A jury found him guilty of murder earlier this year.

Western Australia’s Supreme Court heard that Staggard had used meth the night before the murder.

Justice Amanda Forrester said the severity of Roselyn’s injuries showed how vicious the attack was.

Staggard’s lawyer told the court that his client was ashamed of his actions.

But his family said in an impact statement that they no longer wanted to be associated with him.

Staggard was jailed for life with a minimum parole period of 20 years.
